Living in Luxor - Luxor West Bank Architecture

If you bought land, you might wonder how to build your house. Here you will find some well-chosen examples of the architecture of the villages on the Nile on the West Bank of Luxor. Especially impressive is the old Nubian way of building houses with domes of adobes that the famous Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy (1900 - 1989) has rediscovered.

For us in Central Europe it is really unusual: A roof garden belongs to almost every house as an "extended sitting room". It doesn't rain in Upper Egypt, so you can find here even upholstered furniture, carpets, or pool billiard tables. And because one can sit most of the year outdoors also in the evening or at night, you can make really extensive use of it.
